“Awesome Kim’s form is crazy.” Kim Ha-sung won the gold glove award for the first time in Korea! First winner in utility + first gold hunt successful for 亞 infielder
Kim Ha-seong becomes the first Korean and first utility player to win a Gold Glove.
Kim was honored with the Gold Glove at the Gold Glove ceremony held by the MLB office on June 6 (KST).
Kim won the Gold Glove in the utility category, competing with Korean Tommy Tommy Hyun-Soo Edmon, who was part of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) keystone duo with Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.굿모닝토토 도메인
Previously, Kim was named as a finalist for the 2023 Rawlings Gold Glove Award at each National League position in the second base and utility categories, which were announced on March 19.
This season, Kim played in 152 games, batting .260 (140-for-538) with 17 home runs, 60 RBI, 84 runs scored, 38 stolen bases and a .749 OPS. While he missed the 20-homer, 40-steal mark due to being removed from the lineup at the end of the season, he was recognized for his defensive prowess, playing well in every game.
Kim’s value is also reflected in his defensive metrics. In DRS (Defensive Runs Saved), which measures defensive value by position, Kim was +11 at second base, +3 at third base, and +3 at shortstop, making him one of the best utility players in the majors.
In OAA, he was +7 at second base. Stott and Horner were +16 and +15, respectively. In particular, Kim was rated +10 at 0AA across all positions.
The Utility award is especially significant because it recognizes players who are multi-position, meaning they can play defense in multiple areas. Kim played 101 games at second base, 30 games at third base, and 18 games at shortstop this season.
He is only the second Asian player to win a Gold Glove since Ichiro Suzuki, and the first for an infielder.
