Heung-min Son is proud of his teammates for winning the big game “They don’t need me anymore”
‘Captain’ Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur), who was rested due to illness and poor form, was both pleased and grateful for his teammates’ performance in securing the victory. 스포츠토토“I guess they don’t need me anymore,” he joked, especially after his teammates filled in perfectly in his absence.
“I’m proud that the players did so well without me, and I think they can do without me now,” Son said when he met with reporters in the joint press area (Mix Zone) immediately after the 4-0 victory over Tunisia in the October A match at the Seoul World Cup Stadium at 8 p.m. on the 13th.
Son Heung-min, who started the match from the bench, did not come on as a substitute in the second half. This was because he was not fully fit. In fact, he’s been dealing with a groin problem lately that has limited his playing time at Tottenham, and since being called up to the National Training Center (NFC) in Paju on Sept. 9, he’s been focusing on recovery training.
Instead, Heung-min cheered and encouraged his teammates from the bench. In particular, he showed his ‘captain’ qualities by hugging and advising the players who came on as substitutes. He waved to the fans when he was shown on the scoreboard in between matches, and he was all smiles as he and his teammates celebrated after Klinsmann’s 4-0 victory.
“It’s something I talked to the coach about, and he actually adjusted it,” Son said, explaining his absence from the team. “I’m proud that the players did so well without me. I think it could happen at some point, but the other players handled it well. With a good performance and a lot of goals, I think they must have gained confidence, and I hope they can continue to play like this in the future.” He was pleased with his teammates’ performance.
The absence of the real-life ‘ace’ Son Heung-min was not really noticeable. In his place, the “next ace” Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain), who was free to lead the attack from the flanks and center, had a multi-goal performance that was truly a “10 out of 10.
Son Heung-min said, “(Lee) scored his A-match debut goal. It’s always a dream moment to score your first goal for the national team, so it was great to be there with him. I hope he can score more goals in the future, not just the first and last.” He added, “The hug I gave him (when he came on as a substitute) was because he worked so hard. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever felt comfortable watching a game from the sidelines. I feel uncomfortable and very nervous, especially more nervous than when I’m playing, but Kang In-jae played a good game,” he said, giving his junior a thumbs-up for his performance.
He added, “I tried to hug all the players, not just Kang In, because they all played well. I told them, ‘You worked so hard,'” he said, adding, “I feel good that they prepared so well during the training camp and that what they wanted to do came out well on the field. I say this with a smile on my face, but I think they can do without me now,” he laughed.
Son continued, “I’m proud of how well the players played today. In the future, I think there will always be situations where a player can’t play, not just me, so we need all the players, and we were able to perform like today because all the players prepared well.” “The players who didn’t play today may be disappointed and think it’s a shame, but if they always prepare for the game with the idea that they can come in and change the game, I think our team will be stronger in the future,” he emphasized.
“I always want to play, and I want to say hello to the fans every moment, especially when I don’t have much desire for anything else, but I have a lot of desire to play,” said Son Heung-min, expressing his regret for not being able to play today, “I want to play as much as possible in Korea, and I will prepare well to play. If I get the chance, I’ll do a good job on the field,” he promised.
