Kim Tae-gun final hit, Jung Hae-young 3 years in a row 20SV…KIA, Samsung 2-1, was the 5th place spark [Gwangju Review].

The Kia Tigers have won two straight games to ignite a top-five run.

바카라The Tigers won the 15th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against the Samsung Lions 2-1 after a tight pitching battle at the Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on Monday. A game-winning sacrifice fly by designated hitter Kim Tae-gun and a scoreless inning by closer Jung Hae-young preserved the one-run lead. It was their second straight win to keep their top-five hopes alive.

In the first inning, KIA rookie Yoon Young-cheol and Samsung’s Taylor Widener battled in a breathtaking pitching battle. Yoon neutralized Samsung’s bats with his precise delivery and sharp slider. Widener, who has a 2.00 ERA in three games against KIA, kept KIA batters at bay with a 150-kilometer fastball and a sweeper. It was a low-scoring game.

KIA had chances in the bottom of the second inning with Lee Woo-sung singling to right-center and Han Jun-soo singling to left, but Byun Woo-hyuk struck out swinging. In the bottom of the fourth, Socrates drew a walk and Lee Woo-sung reached on an infield single to shortstop. Two batters later, Han Jun-soo lined a single to right field to make it 1-0. However, they were unable to capitalize on back-to-back singles by Kim Do-young and Kim Seok-hwan in the bottom of the fifth.

Samsung was held scoreless by Yoon Young-chul. In the third and fifth innings, the leadoff hitter reached base, but the subsequent batters were silent. In the top of the sixth, Ryu Ji-hyuk led off with a double and two batters later, Kang Min-ho tied the game with a single to right field. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ryu Ji-hyuk hit a line drive to center field that was blocked by Socrates.

The tense 1-1 game came down to the final inning. KIA got a clue in the bottom of the eighth when Samsung’s Kim Tae-hoon came to the plate. Leadoff hitter Kim Sun-bin led off with a single to left. Socrates’ grounder to second was caught by right fielder Pirela, but Lee Woo-sung’s misplayed shot fell just inside the right-field line for a double, putting runners on second and third.

It was the biggest play of the game. Samsung loaded the bases by walking Lee Chang-jin on an intentional walk and brought up left-hander Lee Jae-ik. The intention was to induce an infield grounder and get a double play. KIA also removed Han Jun-soo, who had already had a multi-hit game, and brought in Kim Tae-gun. Kim Tae-gun hit a sacrifice fly to right field to sneak in a run.

Closer Jung Jung-young came on in the ninth and gave up a hit and a walk to put runners on first and third, but pitched a scoreless ninth to preserve the one-run victory. Jung earned her 20th save of the season. After struggling with his velocity in the middle of the season, Jung regained his form and earned his 20th save for the third straight year.

Yoon Young-cheol pitched six innings, allowing one run on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts. The plan to get to nine wins on the day and try for 10 in his final outing didn’t work out. In the seventh, Kim Dae-yoo was followed by Yoon Jung-hyun with two outs. In the eighth inning, Jeon Sang-hyun came on and got three outs to secure the win.

Samsung didn’t back down and tied the game in the top of the ninth when Pirela singled to right. Lee Jae-hyun followed with a sacrifice bunt to second, but there was no follow-up hit. Widener pitched through the seventh inning, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts, but the offense was unable to capitalize on the one run. Kim Tae-hoon gave up the final run. Samsung had its three-game winning streak snapped.
