5th place fight still on the line…Lotte wins 6-3…Doosan loses to 3rd place Soosung [Jamsil review]
The Lotte Giants kept the busy Doosan Bears on the road.
Lotte won the 14th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against Doosan 6-3 on Sunday at Jamsil Stadium.캡틴토토 With fall baseball virtually over, Lotte knocked off Doosan, which is in a three-way battle for third through fifth place. The battle for fifth place is within reach. Doosan couldn’t hold on to third place. Whichever team wins the series against fifth-ranked NC and fourth-ranked SSG, Doosan will lose the third spot.
Starting pitcher Aaron Wilkerson earned the win, allowing four runs on six hits (one home run) with six strikeouts and three walks in six innings. Wilkerson picked up his seventh win of the season (2-2).

Lotte sent Ahn Kwon-soo (right field), Park Seung-wook (second base), Jeong Hoon (first base), Jeon Jun-woo (designated hitter), Gudrum (third base), Yoo Kang-nam (catcher), Noh Jin-hyuk (shortstop), Lee Jung-hoon (left field), and Hwang Sung-bin (center field).
For Doosan, the batting order was Jeong Soo-bin (center fielder), Cho Su-hyun (right fielder), Rojas (left fielder), Yang Yang-ji (catcher), Yang Seok-hwan (first baseman), Kim Jae-hwan (designated hitter), Kang Seung-ho (second baseman), Kim Jae-ho (shortstop), and Heo Kyung-min (third baseman).
Alcantara’s betrayal as Doosan’s starter
Alcantara retired the first three batters he faced. In the second inning, he struck out the first batter, Jeon Jun-woo. He retired four straight batters before giving up a double to Goodrum in left field and a single to Yoo Kang-nam in right.
A throwing error by the right fielder put runners on first and third. Alcantara gave up an RBI single to left field to Noh Jin-hyuk to make it 0-2. In the third inning, Hwang got the first batter, Hwang Sung-bin, to ground out to shortstop and then started to falter again.
He gave up a walk to Ahn Kwon-soo and allowed a stolen base. He then gave up a single to Park Seung-wook. Jung induced a grounder to the shortstop, but the fielder’s choice was to second. He tried to catch Park Seung-wook running to second base. But the throw went wide. After striking out Jeon Jun-woo with runners on first and third, it looked like he was getting a breather, but he gave up a walk to Gudrum and a single up the middle to Yoo Kang-nam.

Wilkerson gave up a leadoff single to Jung Soo-bin in the bottom of the first inning. He then gave up a sacrifice bunt to Cho Su-hyun. Wilkerson looked shaky in the first inning, but he got Rojas to strike out swinging and Yang to ground out to the shortstop to get out of the inning unscathed.
In the second inning, he struck out the first batter, Yang Seok-hwan, on a wild pitch, Kim Jae-hwan on a fly ball to left field, and Kang Seung-ho on a strikeout. In the third, he retired Kim Jae-ho and Heo Kyung-min on a fly ball to left field and Jung Soo-bin on a swinging strikeout.
In the fourth inning, he gave up a walk to Yang Ji but got Yang Seok-hwan to hit a foul fly to the third baseman to keep the game scoreless. He shut down the Doosan bats with a scoreless fifth inning.
Wilkerson ‘tweaked’… but LOTTE scored more runs
Wilkerson gave up a run in the sixth inning. He walked the first batter he faced and gave up a single to Rojas in right field. Foil walked to put runners on second and third, and Yang gave up a three-run homer to left-center field.
But the bats came through and took the pressure off Wilkerson’s shoulders.
In the fifth inning before Wilkerson was relieved, Jeong Hoon singled to left, Jeon Jun-woo singled up the middle, and Goodrum hit a sacrifice fly to center field to put runners on first and third.
One more run came in the seventh. Ahn Kwon-soo led off with an infield single and advanced to second on Park Seung-wook’s sacrifice bunt. Jung Hoon grounded out to the shortstop, but Jeon Jun-woo reached on an error by second baseman Kang Seung-ho. Ahn Kwon-su crossed home plate to make it 6-3.
After Wilkerson, Choi Jun-yong pitched a scoreless inning, Kim Sang-soo pitched a scoreless inning, and Kim Won-joong pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the win. Kim Won-joong worked out of a bases-loaded jam.
