‘Rookie’ Park Han-geup works in first at-bat…NC wins 6-5 in extra innings + Dusan snaps 4-game winning streak
It was a rookie outfielder who saved a team that was on the verge of losing. He ended the game in his first at-bat as a professional. The NC Dinos avenged the previous day’s loss thanks to the performance of ‘second-round outfielder’ Park Han-geol.
NC improved to 68-2 (.553) with a 6-5 win in the 15th game of the season against the Doosan Bears of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Changwon NC Park on Thursday. Doosan, on the other hand, who failed to win their fourth straight game, fell to 67-1-59 (0.532). The gap between third-place NC and fourth-place Doosan has widened to 2.5 games.
Starting ‘veteran’ Jang Won-jun, Doosan’s lineup was Jung Soo-bin (center field), Kim Jae-ho (shortstop), Jose Rojas (right field), Yang Ji (designated hitter), Kim Jae-hwan (left field), Yang Seok-hwan (first base), Kang Seung-ho (second base), Jang Seung-hyun (catcher), and Park Jun-young (third base).
NC started with Shin Min-hyuk, and the lineup was Son Asub (designated hitter)-Seo Ho-cheol (third baseman)-Park Min-woo (second baseman)-Jason Martin (center fielder)-Kwon Hee-dong (left fielder)-Kim Sung-wook (right fielder)-Yoon Hyung-joon (first baseman)-Ahn Jung-yeol (catcher)-Kim Han-byul (shortstop).
NC was the first team to score a run. In the bottom of the first inning, Seo Ho-cheol hit a two-pitch fastball from Jang Won-joon for a leadoff solo shot over the left field fence. The next batter, Park Min-woo, drew a 13-pitch walk and came around to score on Kwon Hee-dong’s single to right field in the second inning. He didn’t miss a loose throw from Rojas in right field and scored.
After a quiet first inning, Doosan fought back. In the top of the fourth inning, leadoff hitter Rojas singled and Yang Ji Kim walked to load the bases, and after Yang struck out, Kang Seung-ho singled through the third deck to bring home Rojas and Yang Ji. Third baseman Seo Ho-cheol, who had pulled his defensive position forward, was unable to catch the ball as he failed to calculate the boundary. The score was 2-2.
Kim Jae-hwan, the “left-handed slugger” trusted by Doosan manager Lee Seung-yeop, stepped up to the plate. He led off the sixth inning with a single and pulled a four-pitch slider from NC’s second pitcher Han Jae-seung for a huge solo arch over the right field fence. It was his first home run in 46 days, since he hit one against the Samsung Lions in Jamsil on March 9.
However, Doosan was unable to add to its lead, which remained precarious. Furthermore, they were unable to utilize the “three-hitter” Jung Chul-won and Lee Young-ha, who pitched for the second straight day. Lee had pitched 1⅔ innings on the 22nd and 2⅔ innings on the 23rd, so it wasn’t easy for him to take the mound again. In the end, Doosan had to rely on Kim Myung-shin, Hong Gun-hee, Park Chi-guk, and Kim Kang-ryul to close out the game.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, something unexpected happened. Seo Ho-cheol was hit in the head by a fastball from Kim Kang-ryul at first base and fell to the ground and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Due to the headshot rule, Kim Kang-ryul was ejected.
NC balanced the score thanks to their opponent. After Hong Gun-hee took the mound, Park Min-woo’s grounder to third base at 1-2, third baseman Park Joon-young and second baseman Park Kye-beom failed to complete the double play, and only Cho Hyun-jin was thrown out at second base. Then, with runners on second and third, Hong Gun-hee threw a wild pitch, allowing Park to score from third. The score was 3-3.
After a scoreless ninth inning, the teams went into extra innings and didn’t score until the 10th. It was Doosan who broke the 3-3 tie. With one out in the top of the 11th,온라인카지노 Heo Kyung-min, batting for Jang Seung-hyun, took a two-run shot over the left field fence from Kim Si-hoon to regain the 5-3 lead.
With the deficit deepening, NC had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th when Park Min-woo, Martin, and Kwon Hee-dong reached on a walk, hit by pitch, and hit by pitch against Park Chi-guk. In the top of the 10th, Park Han-yeol, who had grounded out to shortstop earlier in the inning, swiped a four-pitch fastball from Park Chi-guk on a 1-2 count and hit a long ball to right-center field. Third baseman Park Min-woo and second baseman Martin then scored, and on the replay, second baseman Park Kye-beom spilled the ball, allowing first baseman Kwon Hee-dong to rush home to end the game.
Park, a graduate of Gyeongbuk Jung-Gyeongbuk High School, joined the NC with the 14th pick in the second round of the 2023 Rookie Draft and was called up to the first team the day before after playing exclusively in the Futures League. He made a strong debut in his first at-bat. While it didn’t turn out to be the game-winner as the final run scored on an error by the opposition, the rookie infielder made a name for himself with a single.
After Shin Min-hyuk (4⅔ innings, 2 runs), Han Jae-seung (1⅓ innings, 1 run), Lim Jung-ho (1 inning, no run), Ryu Jin-wook (1 inning, no run), Lee Yong-chan (2 innings, no run), and Kim Si-hoon (⅓ inning, 2 runs), another rookie, Lee Joon-ho (⅔ innings, no run), came on as the seventh pitcher in relief and earned his first win. A graduate of Gyeongnam High School and Sungkyunkwan University, Lee was drafted in the sixth round with the 54th overall pick and is 1-2 with a 5.75 ERA in 11 games and 20⅓ innings for the first team this year.
On the other hand, Doosan got good work from Jang Won-jun (3⅓ innings, two runs), Choi Won-jun (two scoreless innings), Kim Myung-shin (1⅔ scoreless innings), Kim Kang-ryul (⅓ scoreless innings), and Hong Gun-hee (1⅔ scoreless innings), but the trusty Park Chi-guk (1 inning, three runs, two earned) fell apart. The offense managed just five runs on 10 hits and four walks.
