SSG Landers swept the Doosan Bears. They avenged a 1-10 loss the day before (25th).

토스카지노SSG won the 10th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League against Doosan 7-5 at Jamsil Stadium on Saturday. After foreign pitcher Roenis Elias pitched well in the first inning, the bullpen failed to protect the lead. However, Ha Jae-hoon and Jeon Eui-san hit home runs to secure the win.

SSG took the lead. In the top of the second inning, with the score tied at 0-0, the first batter, Park Sung-yi, hit a single to left-center. Han Yusum then drew a walk. After Kang Jin-sung grounded out to third base, Jeon Eui-san drew a walk to load the bases. Cho Hyung-woo hit a grounder in front of the shortstop, but Park Sung-sung crossed home plate to score a valuable run.

One more run came in the third inning. Choi Ji-hoon led off with a triple to center field. Choi Joo-hwan grounded out to the second baseman and Choi Jung hit a grounder in front of the second baseman, and the third baseman quickly crossed home plate to make it 2-0.

Doosan’s scoring chances wasted…starter Kim Min-kyu ejected early.

Doosan also had a chance to score. In the bottom of the first inning, Kim Jae-ho drew a walk, Rojas flied out to center field, and Yang Yang-ji singled to left to put runners on first and second. However, Yang Seok-hwan flied out to right field to end the threat.

In the third inning, Kim Jae-ho drew a walk and Rojas singled up the middle to put runners on second and third, but Yang was thrown out at the plate.

SSG error, Doosan pulls within one run

Doosan scored a run in the fourth inning. Yang Seok-hwan, the first batter, singled up the middle and Kang Seung-ho flied out to center to load the bases. Park Jun-young doubled down the left field line to put runners on second and third.

Ahn Seung-han hit a ground ball in front of the first baseman, and Jeon Eui-san, the outfielder, made the throw home. Yang Seok-hwan, runner at home, was late. The video replay showed he was out. Ahn Seung-hwan then stole second, and Cho Su-hyung hit a grounder in front of the shortstop, but shortstop Park Sung-sung made a bad throw to first base, allowing Doosan to pull within one run.

Doosan starter Kim Min-kyu was hit by a pitch early. However, the second pitcher, Lee Byung-heon, didn’t last long either.

The SSG bullpen collapsed. In the previous game, starter Kim Kwang-hyun was hit by a pitch, and in today’s game, the bullpen failed to protect the lead and allowed a comeback.

Doosan brought in Jung Soo-bin for Kim Tae-geun in the bottom of the seventh inning, trailing 2-3. Jung lived up to expectations right away. SSG veteran reliever Noh Kyung-eun led off with a single to left. Kim Jae-ho followed with a single to center and Rojas drew a walk.

With the bases loaded, Yang hit a single, but pinch runner Jung Soo-bin came home to tie the game at 3-3.

SSG tied the game in the top of the eighth inning. The first batter, Kim Kang-min, singled up the middle against Doosan’s fifth pitcher, Park Chi-guk, and Ha Jae-hoon took advantage of Park’s first pitch and hit a line drive to the top of the left-center field fence. Center fielder Jung Soo-bin leaped to make the catch, but it turned out to be poison. While the center fielder was trying to catch the ball that hit the fence, Ha raced around second and third base to reach home.

Ha’s inside-the-park home run was the 94th of his career. It ranks third all-time, including his time with SSG’s predecessor, SK. The previous records were set on April 8, 2001 against Daejeon Hanwha (Cho Won-woo, 3 runs in the 7th inning) and April 15, 2012 against Munhwa Hanwha (Ahn Chi-yong, 1 run in the 5th inning).

After Ha Jae-hoon, Jeon hit a seven-pitch changeup from Park Chi-guk for a solo home run over the center field fence. It was Jeon’s fourth home run of the season. It was the 16th home run of the season for Ha and Jeon, the fourth for SSG, and the 1112th of his career.

SSG added a valuable run in the top of the ninth. Doosan bullpen Chung Chul-won was shaken. Choi Jung-jeong singled through the right side, and after Park Sung-sung struck out swinging, Kim Kang-min and Ha Jae-hoon drew walks. The bases were loaded. With the bases loaded, Jeon Eui-san drew a walk.

Doosan sent down Jung Chul-won and brought up Choi Won-joon. SSG was unable to score any more runs as Choi Joon-woo singled against the new pitcher, but reliever Seo Jin-yong came on in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the two-run win.
