Thiago tops scoring charts with hat-trick, hope for Daejeon [Ground Movers]

Brazilian striker Thiago of the Daejeon Hana Citizen of the Korean Football League (K League 1) showed off his goal-scoring prowess last weekend as he became the league’s top scorer.

Thiago started and scored a hat-trick in the 27th round of the Hana OneQ K League 1 2023 away match against the Pohang Steelers at Pohang Steelyard on the 20th.

Although Daejeon lost the match 3-4 after conceding a last-minute goal, Thiago’s performance was very impressive.

Daejeon was down 0-3 until the 31st minute of the second half.

That’s when Thiago’s scoring instincts kicked in. In the 38th minute, 스포츠토토 Thiago headed in a cross from Jeon Byung-kwan to make it 2-0, and three minutes later, he added another goal with a strong right-footed shot.

Thiago’s second goal was a spectacular strike that deserves to be named Goal of the Year.

With momentum in his favour, Thiago completed his hat-trick with another header six minutes into second-half stoppage time. That’s three goals in just 16 minutes.

Despite conceding a late goal through Pohang’s Hong Yun-sang just before the end of the match, Thiago’s performance was enough to give Daejeon hope.

Thiago has exploded for five goals in his last two games, including a multi-goal performance against FC Seoul in the last round.

The 190cm striker made his Korean debut last year with Gyeongnam FC.

He finished second in the K League 2 regular season with 18 goals (2 assists), behind Yoo Kang-hyun (19), and was named as one of the best 11 strikers in the second division at the season’s awards ceremony.

Daejeon is currently seventh in the 12-team K League 1 standings with 36 points.

They are one point behind sixth-placed Incheon United (37 points), who are the final team to qualify for the Final A.

Thiago’s goal-scoring form will be crucial for the team to move up the table in the second half of the season.
